Darkness There was a man in a dream filled with darkness. In that dream of darkness commenced a long standing battle between the man and the King of Darkness himself, Lucifer. Satan taunted him, knowing the man's disadvantage in sight. He toyed with him with utterances of language most raucous and foul. Surely, it was a matter of time before the Devil would grow tired and crush the man. The man indeed knew this and was frightened. So he ran and ran not being able to see through all the darkness. No matter which direction he would run, the thundering voice of Satan would yet further torment him. "You can't run from me!" he would say. "I know every step that you take! I know every move you make even before you make them!" Out of unquestionable fear, the man cried out to the Lord, "GOD! Where are you?! Why won't you protect me! Make this all stop!" A quiet voice resounded from within the man's heart, "My dear child, I am always with you. You only need but to ask..." And in that very instant, the darkness which shrouded this man's world illuminated. The man immediately felt the Lord’s presence inside of him. However, as the man's eyes adjusted to the instant flash of light, he shut his eyes again and cowered in fear, for he still felt the presence of the Devil as well. He feared of actually seeing his adversary face to face. "Do not be afraid," said the Lord. "I am merely showing you the Truth. Behold!" The man rose up and opened his eyes ever so slowly. Much to the man's surprise, he found himself, not in a foreign land or nightmare but the world in which he lives in. And from as far as he could see, Satan was nowhere in sight. This gave the man relief but puzzled him at the same time because he could feel the Devil's presence and hear his voice. He boldly asked the Lord, "Reveal to me my enemy! I want to see what I have been running from all along." God immediately uncovered the whereabouts of the Devil, which was off at a distance practically beyond the man's vision. "Off in that distance beyond your reach is his domain," said the Lord. "This is where he has always been and always will be. You need not be afraid anymore for all he can do from where he stands is shout and pester you." The man's head became finally clear after hearing what the Lord had said. He stared straight at the mockery of a being and shouted to him, "Satan! You ridiculous, foolish being! All along you've had to shout to get my attention when all the Lord ever had to do was whisper…" |
